Treeo Marketplace

Global marketplace for lumber and logs

Overview

At Treeo Marketplace, I collaborated closely with two fellow engineers to develop and scale both web and mobile applications. I led numerous projects from inception to deployment, providing guidance through code reviews and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables. I architected and implemented comprehensive backend services for critical business functions, including inventory management, pricing, shipments, orders, and notifications, ensuring a scalable and maintainable system architecture. Additionally, I created the iOS application using a webview approach, expanding our platform's accessibility to a broader user base.My role encompassed designing and managing cloud infrastructure with Docker, Kubernetes, and Google Pub/Sub, optimizing for an event-driven architecture and high availability. I enhanced frontend performance by implementing caching strategies and UI optimizations, significantly improving the user experience for clients with low-quality network connections. Through meticulous database design and efficient query implementation, I ensured data integrity and seamless integration with frontend components. My efforts in testing and documentation, including generating OpenAPI docs and maintaining comprehensive test suites with Cypress and Jest, contributed to the platform's stability and scalability. These initiatives were pivotal in achieving breakeven status and supporting the platform's ongoing growth and client satisfaction.

Tech

We leveraged a modern and robust technology stack to build scalable and high-performance web and mobile applications. Our frontend was developed using Preact for its lightweight and efficient rendering capabilities, complemented by Swift for the iOS app built via webview integration. The backend was powered by NestJS and Node.js, providing a solid foundation for building scalable and maintainable server-side applications. We utilized TypeScript across the stack to ensure type safety and enhance developer productivity. For data management, we implemented MongoDB as our primary database, enabling flexible and efficient handling of our business-critical data. Our DevOps workflow was streamlined with Docker and Kubernetes, facilitating containerization and orchestrating our microservices for seamless deployment and scalability. Google Pub/Sub and Redis were integral for managing real-time event-driven architectures and caching, respectively, ensuring high availability and optimal performance. To maintain code quality and reliability, we employed Cypress and Jest for comprehensive testing, ensuring robust and error-free deployments. Our development process was further supported by tools like OpenAPI for API design and documentation, an NX Monorepo for organized codebase management, and Git paired with CI/CD Pipelines to enable continuous integration and continuous deployment. This cohesive technology stack empowered us to deliver a resilient and user-friendly platform, driving Treeo Marketplace to achieve breakeven status and support ongoing growth.

Tag

Solving the organization problem for content creators.

Overview

At Tag, I serve as the sole technical founder, developing a comprehensive content organization platform aimed at solving the challenges faced by modern content creators. Using React Native and Expo, I built a cross-platform application that enables creators to efficiently organize, search, and manage their content across iOS, Android, and web platforms. We use a combination of camera-based tagging and efficient tagging workflows to save creators time by organizing their content seamlessly. This comprehensive solution addresses critical pain points for content creators, including content organization, searchability, and storage management, with the MVP launching soon.

Tech

I architected and implemented the entire technical infrastructure, utilizing Firestore for real-time data management and Google Cloud Storage for scalable content storage. A key achievement was developing a custom machine learning-powered camera module for image classification, significantly enhancing the app's content organization capabilities. The backend infrastructure was built using Serverless Functions and integrated with Firebase Auth for secure user authentication. As the technical founder, I managed all aspects of the development process, from initial architecture decisions to implementation and testing. I established efficient development workflows using Git and EAS (Expo Application Services) for seamless build and deployment processes.

  • Languages: JavaScript

  • Frontend: React Native, Expo

  • Backend: Serverless Functions

  • Databases: Firestore

  • Storage: Google Cloud Storage

  • Authentication: Firebase Auth

  • DevOps: EAS (Expo Application Services), Git

  • Cross-Platform: iOS, Android, Web

  • Features: Machine Learning Image Classification

Summit Web Solutions

Digital agency specializing in website development and management for small businesses

Overview

Building out Summit Web Solutions is, for the most part, what I've been up to since graduating college in 2020. I started this business in 2019 from my dorm room after helping a friend build out an ecommerce website. Years later, I supported over 100 clients in just about every way imaginable, including:

  • Website development & management

  • Copywriting + blog writing

  • Google Ads development & management

  • Social media management

  • Web hosting & DNS management

  • Email hosting

  • Google Data Studio Automated Reporting

  • Email campaign development & management

Despite it being my initial passion and business venture, I decided to sell the business in August of 2023 due to the emergence of more promising opportunities.

Tech

Since each website was built with the owner in mind, I primarily used easy-to-learn CMS' like Wordpress and plugins like Elementor. However, each site featured a unique design with custom themes and plugins. Other custom solutions were built with Nextjs and Nestjs.

  • Wordpress (heavy use of PHP for customization, Elementor)

  • Nextjs

  • Nestjs

  • Firebase

  • MySQL

Portfolio

Here's a few of my former clients. Not all designs were purely mine, and most of the develoment was done hand-in-hand with the owner and/or manager. I've worked with over 100 clients, but here are a few highlights.

Zuber Lawler

  • Built custom website with Wordpress & PHP

  • Managed website, ad campaigns, web and email hosting

KS Mushroom Store

  • Built custom website with Wordpress & PHP

  • Managed website, ad campaigns, web and email hosting

Lotus Capital Partners

  • Built custom website with vanilla HTML/CSS/JS

  • Managed website and web hosting

LienFinders

A better way to research tax liens, deeds, & foreclosures in the U.S

Overview

LienFinders is my most recent project and the one I'm most excited about. In short, LienFinders parses thousands of outdated and hard-to-navigate government websites, collects data on tax-advantaged properties, and displays that data in an intuitive UI. Users of LienFinders are tax lien/deed/foreclosure investors who are looking to do research on their next property. Most of my users are organic, and I'm currently in the process of a beta launch as of January 2024. LienFinders is currently well-established in Florida, and expanding to new states this year.

Thoreau

Thoreau is an AI writing assistant empowering you to write smarter, not harder

Overview

Thoreau is a project I began building back when GPT-2 was all the rage in niche LLM communities (aka, back when it wasn't worth much, but it showed promise). I began building this SaaS back in 2020, but didn't officially launch until the beginning of 2023. It wasn't until the beginning of 2022 that I accepted my invitation to OpenAI's beta, and the software actually became useful. By then, there were market was much more saturated - leading me to sell the business right after launch. After a strong start with over 300 active users, I exited in January 2023, after anticipating market oversaturation.Like many other LLM-based applications, Thoreau was essentially a wrapper of GPT-4, only aimed at helping small businesses create mid-quality content with SEO in mind.

Tech

Frontend:

  • NextJS

  • OpenAI API

  • Google authentication

Backend:

  • Firebase (firestore)

Demo

Due to the fact that Thoreau is no longer in production and I no longer have rights to the codebase, instead of screenshots to demonstrate the web app, I'll use my demo series on Youtube. There are 8 videos demonstrating the software I created.

Columbia University

Graduated in 2020 with a B.A. in computer science with a concentration on intelligent systems

Overview

I received my B.A. from Columbia University in 2020. I was a student-athlete on the football team, and founded an investment club (The Lincoln Foundation) on campus where a group of 15 students and I simulated a portfolio and debated whether or not to invest in certain companies. The most formative experience I had here was a result of the time required to play on the football team while keeping up with my academics. With over 40 hours/week dedicated to the team, and another 40+ dedicated to schooling, I was exhausted, and had little time for anything else - but I wouldn't have had it any other way. The friendships and bonds I formed with both my classmates and teammates are invaluable and lifelong, and they were forged in those long hours spent together.
